Almost Due For An Absolutely Harmonious Event!

Written on the 16 September 2016

Terry Robinson was up at Aylesbury yesterday to check on Absolute Harmony and Terry is excited to announce the birth of the foal is only a few days away. Below is a video (sorry for the poor quality) of Terry explaining some of the signs as to when the foal is almost due, including the change to the mare's belly and the hind caving in. What's also noticed are the teats enlarging as they fill with milk and relaxation of the pelvic area with swelling of the vulva.

Often the last few weeks of gestation, the mare may exhibit some behavioural changes such as crankiness and restlessness. No different to how women feel... hahaha. As she enteres the first stage of labour, the mare may wish to be left alone. She may walk continually, swish her tail, look at her sides and kick at her abdomen. These signs can also indicate colic, however if she eats, drinks, defecates and urinates frequently, then the first stage of labour is probably in progress. Once labour approaches, the mare will often break into a sweat.

Grant & Lynne Watters, owners of Aylesbury are also ecstatic about the impending birth and explained that the mare will now wear a collar, which will sound an alam if she lies down, so they can be present to aid with the birth, no matter what time of day or night it is.

It's now just a waiting game but we'll keep you all posted once delivery occurs, with plenty of pictures, I'm sure.
