Shock Comeback of Lindsay Hatch Trained Transporter!

Written on the 23 January 2017

Lindsay Hatch, who is Tony Gollan's main pre-trainer, and trainer of Transporter, made a stellar comeback at Eagle Farm on Saturday when this monster 9yo gelding was surprisingly victorious after poor performances since September last year.

After sitting in third place for most of the race, son of Commands took the lead before the 100m mark, and made a dash for the finish line, winning by 2 lengths.

Transporter was doing well at the peak of his career, winning twice at Listed level and placing in a Group 2 Hollindale Stakes, four years ago. But after a pretty good winter carnival in 2014, Transporter was injured and spent more than two years on the sidelines.

Hatch received a call from owner Les Tinkler a couple of months ago and was up for the challenge of getting this once well placed thoroughbred up to scratch.

"We have a treadmill and water walker at home and that suits his joints and feet. He's really in a good space at the moment," Hatch said.

"I told them I wouldn't run him unless I was happy with where he was at. I was thrilled when the rain came, because it obviously helps a lot of those old injuries."

"I'm hoping he might be a Toowoomba Cup horse. He's shown plenty of times in the past he's comfortably up to a race like that."

When jockey Emma Ljung returned, Hatch said "I told you" before revealing, he also told staff to have something on the hulking gelding at $71.

One of the first to congratulate Hatch was fellow trainer Tony Gollan, who had tasted success earlier with Skylimit.

The current race record for $16,000 purchased, Transporter, is 10 wins from 39 starts with prizemoney of $399,250.00
