Love Conquers All Filly Savanna Amour Claims Victory in Gold Coast Guineas

Written on the 8 May 2017

Love Conquers All filly Savanna Amour claimed a tight victory at the Gold Coasat Guineas (1200m) on Saturday after bookmakers moved her to $16 after being favourite to win ($7.50) earlier in the week.

The John Meagher trained filly showed great tenacity when jockey Ronnie Stewart rode her up the outside, just defeating Kiwi Group 1 winner Heroic Valour on the line by a short head, with Tessera close behind.

"I was under pressure early and had to give her a dig to get into the right spot," Steward said. She bullocked her way out and I probably got out too soon, but she showed great tenacity."

The 3yo filly previously won the Group 2 Angus Armanasco Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield in February.

Meagher mentioned that he was able to keep Savanna Amour up to the mark since Melbourne, as she only had a short time out before coming back into the stable.

"She's a bit scatty, but a lot of the good fillies are like that," he said.

Meagher is keen to head to the Tatts Tiara at Eagle Farm on June 24, but has not ruled out the $1.5 million Stradbroke Handicap at the same track on June 10th.

Syndicator, Grant Morgan however told Racenet, he is no fan of the Eagle Farm track. The filly has been unplaced in both her Eagle Farm runs on tracks rated Soft 5.

"I have got massive concerns about Eagle Farm and I don't mind saying that," Morgan said.

"We would love nothing more than to win the Stradbroke or Tatts Tiara but the way that Eagle Farm track is at the moment, she might not be going there."

"That is a great shame because she is well and truly up to winning both of those races."

"She's worth $750,000 to $1 million and I'm not prepared to risk her unless that track improves significantly," Morgan said. We would love nothing more than to win the Stradbroke or Tatts Tiara but the way that Eagle Farm track is at the moment, she might not be going there."

"I don't think it's acceptable to have margins of 20 lengths and more from first to last."

'We might just give Savanna Amour a break and go to Melbourne again for the early spring."
