Christian Reith Takes The Shogun Sun Reigns Again In The Run To The Rose!

Written on the 8 September 2017

Kelly Schweida is heading back to Sydney with Shogun Sun for The Run To The Rose on Saturday, after his debut win at Randwick last month.

The 1200m distance has proven to suit the three-year-old gelding well, however the barrier 10 draw was a disappointment for Eagle Farm trainer Kelly Schweida.

"We drew barrier 10 which is no help. It puts you back a few lengths from where you would like to be in the run and the Sydney horses really run home hard the last 600 metres," Schweida said.

"But we can't do much about it and Saturday's race will show us where we sit in the pecking order."

Schweida has once again booked Christian Reith to ride Shogun Sun ($19) in the $200,000 Group Two Run To The Rose at Rosehill, after he stormed home to win on Shogun Sun at Randwick last month.

Schweida had always planned to book long-time friend Reith for Shogun Sun in the Rosehill race this Saturday and also the Group One Golden Rose on September 23rd.

"Chris and I have been friends for a long time and he rode a stack of winners for me in Brisbane before he went to Sydney," Schweida said.

"I was genuinely happy I could give him a winner at Randwick and hopefully we can win some stakes races together this month."

Snitzel sired Menari is the favourite for the Run To The Rose at $2.40 with Sportsbet. The Gerald Ryan-trained colt will be ridden by John Parr who is hoping this ride will springboard him to the next level of his career. After a decade of riding in Sydney and an average strike rate of around 18% during his career, he's still yet to make his mark at the higher end of racing, having only two group 1 wins under his belt.

Peter and Paul Snowden-trained Pariah, currently sits at $3.50 with Sportsbet in the Run To The Rose. The Snowdens' expect jockey Blake Shinn to take full advantage of Pariah's favourable barrier (3) on Saturday.

"Pariah should get a nice spot from his good gate," Snowden said. "It would be silly to waste it - I think Pariah will be in the first four or five early."
