The Ambassadore Sired by Love Conquers All is Gollan's Strongest Hope at Doomben!

Written on the 15 September 2017

The Ambassadore and Hi I'm Back resume their racing career this season with Tony Gollan feeling The Ambassadore his strongest hopeful out of his 10 runners at Doomben on Saturday.

Gollan feels the addition of blinkers on the four-year-old gelding, The Ambassadore, who was sired by Love Conquers All, will be a big benefit.

"The breed (Love Conquers All) seem to be better in the shades and everything he's shown me suggests they are going to be a big advantage for him," Gollan said.

"Even though he's only won the one race from nine starts, he's always shown Saturday ability, but he's had ordinary barriers a lot of the time.

"His form is good enough for this race.

"He's started favourite in a race won by I'm A Ripper last season and he went on to measure up in stakes grade.

"I think this is the right race at the right distance and he's drawn a good gate."

The Ambassadore is a $3.10 favourite with UBET at Race 3 on Saturday.

Hi I'm Back wasn't as fortunate with his barrier draw in Race 1, which has Gollan fearing he may come up one run short.

"He will improve for the run," Gollan said.

"He's only had the one soft trial. He won it, but it was in a very slow time, which shows it was only an easy hitout.

"His work has been good but just looking at him, he's probably got this run to bring him on and from the draw, I would be reluctant to press forward and risk being caught wide, so he might have to go back."

Gollan who has already jumped to the lead in the new season premiership with 13 metropolitan wins from 90 starts, will be celebrating the birth of his first child with wife Jane soon. The baby is due next Thursday and I'm sure will be one of Gollan's most difficult achievements to date.

"I'm pretty sure it's going to be harder than trying to sort out some of the three-year-old fillies in the stable," Gollan said.

"I'm sure we're going to have our hands full, but we're both really looking forward to it."
