Talk of The Everest Being Shifted to Friday Night Under Lights!

Written on the 20 October 2017

The Everest that clashed with the Caulfield Stakes last Saturday was an outstanding success.

More than 33,000 people flocked to Royal Randwick last Saturday to see the Snitzel-sired Redzel, owned by Triple Crown Syndicators, win the trophy for this inaugural event. Proof again that syndicated owners have a real shot at the big money.

This has been the biggest attendance at a Sydney race meeting in a decade with TAB wagering turnover of The Everest exceeding $12 million and the meeting reaching nearly $30 million. It easily topped the Golden Slipper as Sydney's biggest betting race and meeting of the year.

But now there have been talks of shifting The Everest to a Friday night. This could take place as early as next year if council approves of night racing and lights are installed at Randwick.

An Everest at night under lights might seem appealing, however it would not attract anywhere near the attendance or betting turnover as a Saturday afternoon time slot.

If The Everest remains on the second Saturday of October, it's set to clash with the Caulfield Cup in 2019.
