Written on the 6 October 2017

This Saturday, October 7, Gold Coast sets in motion the first of the 2YO starts for the season with Race 1 Aquis Park QTIS 2-Y-O Colts & Geldings Plate.

Only 6 horses will be competing in Race 1, with Rains Aplenty (Barrier 6) the $1.75 favourite trained by John Zielke, who has a knack for finding good quality and value-for-money two-year-olds. This Manhattan Rain-sired colt came second in his first trial and then went on to win his next trial, both at Toowoomba.

Brinkmanship (Barrier 4) is second favourite with bookmakers, currently sitting at $2.70 with Sportsbet. This Spirit Of Boom-sired colt is trained by Helen Page and won his first and only trial by a big margin at the Gold Coast track.

Perhaps the Mark Webb-trained Bolter (Barrier 1) will bolt across the finish line first. He won his debut trial at the Sunshine Coast out of 3 runners. He shares $13 for a win with Burning Success (Barrier 2) after placing second from his first trial start at the Sunshine Coast out of 3 runners.

Race 2 sees the fillies have their first start in racing history at the Vilis Family Bakery QTIS 2-Y-O Fillies Plate.

The field of 12 has the Paul Butterworth-trained Baby Boo sitting as favourite at $4.20 with Ladbrokes. She has a Barrier 5 position and looks ready to go following a convincing trial win at Doomben.

The Chris-Munce-trained filly, Pony Power (Barrier 11) came second to Baby Boo at her Doomben trial. She sits at $5.00 with bookmakers.

Sharing a $5.50 payout for a win is Snitzel-sired Fish 'n' Snitz who won her first trial by a big margin at the Sunshine Coast over a week ago. The Stuart Kendrick-trained filly drew a favourable Barrier 2. While the Tony Gollan-trained Cailini (Barrier 6) placed third against a strong field including Baby Boo and Pony Power in her first trial at Doomben.
