Written on the 23 June 2017

This year Three Bridges Thoroughbreds have been onto a winner with the ever-increasing popularity of the Unencumbered yearlings. The average price was calculated at $46,250 this year, being a favourite among purchasers, trainers and bloostock agents. This price 3 to 4 times the service fee.

The Unencumbered weanlings have also proven to be popular at the 2017 Inglis Great Southern Sale. Out of 12 weanlings up for sale, only one was passed in. The top Unencumbered weanling price at this sale was $40,000 with the average price of $15,273 and an aggregate of $168,000.

An overall new weanling record was reached on Day 1 of the Sale at Oaklands Junction. $310,000 was paid by Steve Jostlear of Ampulla Lodge for Lot 204, a More Than Ready x Calming Influence colt from the Swettenham Stud draft. This price was matched the following day with Bombora Downs' Lot 383 Written Tycoon x Many Facets purchased by Newgate Farm and China Horse Club.

The top lots helped push the select weanling sale's aggregate to a very strong $8,838,250 with a 76% clearance, an improvement on last year.

Victorian stallion Written Tycoon was a clear leading sire, topping both the aggregate ($1,090,000) and average price ($155,714) for three or more sales.

It was Bombora Downs' second-best result ever for Written Tycoon, having sold a colt for $350,000 at the Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale this year.

Christoph Bruechert from Bombora Downs said, "It's great for me, and it's great for Victoria. To have two equal-record Lots in two days here is great, and it's fantastic that we've finally got a headline stallion in Written Tycoon, who I truly believe has got many great years ahead of hm."
