The Inglis Classic Yearling Sale Kicks Off Today!

Written on the 10 February 2017

There's sure to be a big celebration in Sydney today when Inglis kicks off its 150th year anniversary in hosting the first sale of the season, the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale, February 11th through to 13th.

The sale begins this evening at 6pm following racing at Randwick, including the $250,000 Inglis Classic at 2pm over 1200m. Sweet Deal, trained by John P Thompson and ridden by Jason Collett is the favourite at $4.00

600 lots will be offered as buyers search for the next champion such as the 2015 Classic graduates, Extreme Choice, Yankee Rose and I Am A Star.

The opening night of the sale features the inaugural Gold Riband Session where 56 yearlings will go under the hammer. The Gold Riband is a select session for yearlings with the pedigree and conformation to excel in the elite two-year-old races.

Inglis will pay a $100,000 bonus split between the named vendor and supplier (breeder) of the first graduate of the session to win a stakes race. Inglis will also pay the initial Golden Slipper entry fee for each horse sold during the Gold Riband Session, covering lots 61-120.

As well as this, Inglis will offer for the first time a $1 million bonus, split between the vendor and supplier of any graduate of the Classic sale that can win next year's G1 Golden Slipper.

All yearlings offered at Inglis Yearling Sales are also eligible for entry into the lucrative $5 million Inglis Race Series.

Some of the yearlings on offer include 28 from Australia's current leading sire, I Am Invincible (Aus), champion sire Fastnet Rock (Aus) has 5 catalogued, More Than Read has 6, Not A Single Doubt has 11 and his paternal half-brother Snitzel (Aus) has 10 catalogued. Their sire, Redoute's Choice (Aus) has one catalogued.

2017 will also see the last sales held at the iconic Newmarket complex, with confirmation the company's new Warwick Farm base to be ready for use early next year. Construction of the new $140m precinct, adjacent to the Warwick Farm racecourse, is set to be completed December this year.
