A Look At The Magic Millions March Sale And People's Day Highlighting Buffering!

Written on the 20 March 2017

The rain didn't stop owners and those interested in purchasing a racehorse from turning up to the People's Day at the Magic Millions March sale on Sunday.

The forum which was hosted by the Thoroughbred Queensland Breeders Association and Racing Queensland was held in the nice and dry Auditorium at 1pm followed by a BBQ at 4pm.

Former Queensland jockey Bernadette Cooper who started her career as a jockey back in 1990 was Master of Ceremonies for the event. Some of the highlights in Cooper's riding career include qualifying as Queensland's top apprentice jockey, riding 3 winners at Rosehill in a day and being one of the first female riders to race in Japan.

The afternoon got under way with a welcome address by TBQA president Basil Nolan and was followed by a panel of trainers, including Tony Gollan, Kelly Schweida, Ben Currie and Tony McMahon, plus key industry identities, with Magic Millions Managing Director, Vin Cox explaining what to look for in a yearling.

One of the highlights was a parade of multiple group 1 champion, Buffering. Buffering was purchased for a mere $22,000, winning 7 group ones and over $7 million in prizemoney. Not only is that impressive, but he was a late born November foal who went on to race and win as a March 2yo.

The sales got off to a running start on Monday at 10am with 400 lots on offer, including a brother to our 2yo The Knight. Spirit of Boom X Jessica's Hope is a big fella with folks saying he's one of the biggest Spirit of Boom's that have gone through the ring. He has similar bone structure to The Knight and also like The Knight, a lot of the mare has shown in this colt.
