Gollan Hits 100th Queensland Win With Miss Arabella!

Written on the 28 July 2017

Turangga Farm bred Miss Arabella snatched her maiden win at Ipswich on Wednesday, giving Tony Gollan his 100th Queensland win for the season and a chance to take the State Premiership.

Gollan has a high opinion of the 3yo filly out of High Chaparral (IRE) who stormed home to win a maiden (1350m) at Ipswich after a 2nd placing at the Gold Coast and 3rd placing at Ipswich in February and January respectively.

"We bought Miss Arabella after she was passed in at the Sydney Easter Sales and then her owners decided to lease her out for her current campaign," Gollan said.

Gollan trails behind Toowoomba-based trainer Ben Currie who currently has the State Premiership lead with 102-1/2 wins.

There are four meetings left to give Gollan the chance to take the lead but Gollan says Currie will be difficult to catch.

"The way things have fallen, I have only three runners at Doomben on Saturday and I think Ben has six," Gollan said.

"I have a few chances at Gatton on Friday and I might have a couple of runners at Beaudesert on Saturday and Caloundra on Sunday. But I think Ben will probably have runners at those tracks as well."

Gollan has already clearly won the Brisbane Metropolitan Premiership this season with 77 wins, ahead of Anthony Edmonds on 62. This will be Gollan's 4th Brisbane Metropolitan Premiership win in a row, after winning 86 1/2 starts last season.

"I think we are on 108 winners on all Australian tracks and when you can claim that, it has been a good season. It is especially since the problems Eagle Farm trainers have had but now we are finally settled in our new complex, watch out for us all," Gollan said.
