BRC Official Opening and Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony at Eagle Farm Infield Complex!

Written on the 4 August 2017

On Sunday 30th July, the Brisbane Racing Club officially opened the Eagle Farm Racecourse's multi-million dollar infield redevelopment which includes stables to house 430 horses and a training complex.

The official opening included a ribbon-cutting ceremony by former QTC Chairman Mr Phil Sullivan; 2001-2005.

Channel 7 News were the first on site to get a glimpse of the new premises which includes a pedestrian tunnel for racegoers and another tunnel for vehicles leading to 1,000 carparks. (View video)

The nearby residential complex is expected to be ready in a years' time.

Members and their families enjoyed tours of the state-of-the-art facilities, with special insights from leading trainers' Chris Anderson and Kelly Schweida.

The stables feature butterfly rooftops which allows the breeze to flow through to keep the horses cool, especially in summer.

The wood in the stables is made out of compressed bamboo; a simple feature that has stopped the expensive horse habit of chewing.

"Horses are terrible, they chew everything," said trainer Kelly Schweida.

Schweida who has 44 stables at the complex said, "Moving into these is like moving into the Hilton Hotel,"

The BRC Culinary Team prepared a delicious brunch for guests and their families at the event and children enjoyed the pony rides, face painting and jumping castle.

Terry and the team from Team Thoroughbreds were there to soak up the atmosphere and capture the experience with some photos featured here.

Of course, getting the track back into operation is the highest priority now, with an independent review of the track expected to be released today.
