The countdown to the Toowoomba Weetwood officially ended on Monday when nominations for the $625,000 Clifford Park race day hosted by the Toowoomba Turf Club were finalised.
The Toowoomba Weetwood is synonymous with racing in Toowoomba and is transforming from a great local raceday to a national event. Saturday, April 8th will herald the 127th year of this historical event.
The Toowoomba Weetwood now boasts a full week of activities and this year the Weetwood Gala was introduced on Saturday, April 1st.
Events for the week include a corporate golf day at City Golf Club, which was held on Monday, Tuesday featured a free public barbecue as part of the Breakfast With The Stars, trackside at Clifford Park.
Today at 11am the barrier draw will be held at The Walton's Stores in Annand St with the annual Clifford Park Racing Mass to follow this evening.
On Friday, Weetwood Calcutta Sportsman's Lunch will be held at Clifford Park. And on Raceday the event wouldn't be complete without Fashions on the Field.
The event last year saw a great turnout.
"Last year, just over 5,000 people from across south-east Queensland and beyond attended the Weetwood," Toowoomba Turf Club chairman Kent Woodford said.
"We are proud that it delivers significant money to the local economy."
The event will showcase some of the best racehorses, from rising two and three-year-old track stars to seasoned gallopers. The Toowoomba Weetwood will feature 8 races including the prestigious Audi Centre Toowoomba Weetwood Handicap over 1200 metres and the Wippells Autos Toowoomba Cup over 2000 metres.
