Tony Reflects On The Season's Wins With Plans To Expand!
Written on the 5 August 2016
A day before the end of the racing season, trainer, Tony Gollan reflected on his 2015/2016 achievements. The stable celebrated 87.5 metropolitan wins when Shipwrecked arrived in the OMW at Doomben last Saturday - a number in excess of his record 79 wins 12 months earlier.
"Today's a good day to celebrate the season and reflect on what we have achieved, but then we go back to work on Monday and we do it all again. We have to be happy with the winners we have had this season and hopefully we can do the same again next season, "Gollan said.
As we mentioned in our last update, Gollan is keen to open a Sydney stable in the next few months. However, he is adamant that Eagle Farm will be his main base, wishing to maintain his position as a leading trainer in Queensland racing. Gollan said, "We've expanded our box numbers here which is really good for us because we're quite popular here in Brisbane so expanding our box numbers here will take a little pressure off the pre-training side of it".
With stables in Sydney, there's a great advantage for Queensland clients who want to break into Sydney racing. Initially, Gollan will take horses down from Brisbane.
This will also give him the opportunity to service his Sydney clients, which he has a lot of. Gollan went on to mention that he'll be able to dip his toes in the water there and reassess how successful the stable has been over the season.
